News Update Philippine 'Caloy' exiting RP; landslides damage roads in Luzon

Tropical Depression Caloy (international code name Chanthu) has intensified into a tropical storm as it continued to move away from Philippine territory Tuesday morning, state weather forecasters said.
Natural Disasters and Sustainable Development
Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Elvie Enriquez said there was little chance Caloy will make a U-turn and return to the country.

"Papalayo na ito sa bansa. Kaya lang nasa loob pa ito ng Philippine area of responsibility. Hindi siya nagpapakita ng kilos na babalik (It is leaving Philippine territory. So far it is not showing any sign of making a U-turn and returning)," Enriquez said on dzBB radio Tuesday.

Enriquez said Caloy is no longer likely to bring rains to the country, although Visayas and Mindanao can expect rains due to the inter-tropical convergence zone.

PAGASA's 5 a.m. advisory said Caloy was 420 km west northwest of Dagupan City as of 4 a.m., with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
