“Can I just get your opinion? In lieu of ambush interviews, ganito na lang (can we just instead do this)?" he asked Palace reporters during his first press conference on Wednesday.

Aquino went on to joke that during the six-year term of his mother, the late Corazon “Cory" Aquino, he was “ambushed" only once.

“Nung presidente kasi nanay ko, minsan lang ko na-ambush. Ngayon three times, four times a day (When my mother was president, I was ambushed only once. Now I get ambushed three times, four times a day)," he said.

He was referring to the time he was caught in the crossfire between his mother’s security details and rebel soldiers during one of the coup attempts that marked her administration. The younger Aquino survived five gunshot wounds.

Palace reporters agreed with Aquino’s proposal.
