Radio dzXL reported Thursday that the incident occurred near a school in Labo-Labo village in Shariff Aguak town in Maguindanao about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The suspected bomber, initially identified as one Sabdulla Onti, 24, is now in the custody of the Army's 6th Infantry Division.
Col. Benjamin Hao, spokesman of the 6th Infantry Division, said they suspect Onti may have been setting up the explosive when it went off prematurely.
Recovered from the scene were the remains of a Nokia 1100 cellular phone, a watch, and components of the explosive.
