TUPI, South Cotabato (PIA) - Having officials and members trained on good agricultural practices, the Tupi Balangon Farmers' Association (TUBAGA) in this town has managed to become a "world-class" organic bananas exporter, shipping at least 16 metric tons of bananas to Japan weekly.

The Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program disclosed that TUBAGA has also expanded production areas in Southern Mindanao.
With the assistance and training provided by USAID-GEM on Good Agricultural Practices under its Targeted Commodity Expansion Project (TCEP), TUBAGA has learned the ins and outs of operating the business on banana production to the extent of engaging into exports.
GEM said that is has also sponsored the cooperative's participation in the International Food Exhibit (IFEX), a major trade event in Manila.
