VIGAN CITY - At least 20 units of sirens ("wang-wangs") were confiscated by the operatives from the Vigan City Traffic Management Office as they heeded the call of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III to ban its unauthorized use. SPO4 Fernando Quebral, Chief of the Vigan's Traffic Management Office, said that their continuing operation to seize all illegally-installed sirens in all types of private vehicles travelling in the city. "I already fielded several traffic aides in all streets in the core-zone of the heritage city to monitor and confiscate all installed siren devices in all private vehicles," Quebral said. Meanwhile, Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesman Senior Superintendent Agrimero Cruz advised local police authorities to take extra precautions in the crackdown on unauthorized used of sirens and blinkers.

Cruz told local policemen to consider the human rights provisions in our Constitution in implementing the anti-sirens policy. He said that the PNP is set to have a meeting with operatives from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for coordination in the efficient implementation of the anti-sirens and blinkers campaign.
In another related development, several lawmakers also heeded the call of President Aquino to ban the use of sirens as they urged their colleagues to follow their example.Representative Marcelino R. Teodoro (1st District, Marikina City) said legislators should be the role models of the Filipino people, adding that the President's gesture is admirable and should be implemented with strictness and urgency."If the President submits to non-use of sirens and other special privileges in traffic situations, who are we to go beyond it? We are lawmakers and not law breakers," Teodoro said.
