MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan - For the first time, police who went after illegal drag racers in this city scored big on Sunday night, arresting a total of 22 suspected racers and seizing their motorcycles.
Superintendent Baltazar B. Mamaril Jr., city chief of police, said the drag racing activities held every weekend along MacArthur Highway have long been under surveillance by police but it was only last Sunday night that an operation was successfully launched to stop it.
Operatives of the Malolos City Police Station Quick Reaction Team (QRT) impounded 22 motorcycles, four of which had no license plates and another four without registration papers.
Sixteen of the suspects arrested were penalized for driving without helmets and four had no driver's licenses.
All of those arrested were slapped with violation of the traffic rules and regulations as well as infraction of a City Ordinance.
Mamaril said, the operation stemmed from complaints of concerned residents and parents in the place.
During Monday's flag ceremony at city hall, Mayor Christian D. Natividad lauded the operation by the police and vowed his full support on operations to rid the streets of illegal activities, especially those that endanger the public.
