TALISAY, Batangas - Authorities released Monday the artist's sketch of the two gunmen in the attack on Vice Mayor Florencio Manimtim Jr. during his father's funeral last Saturday in Barangay Poblacion, here.
Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo, Batangas Police Provincial Office (PPO) spokesman, said the sketches were based on the description given by witnesses.
The two gunmen shot Manimtim and two of his security aides in full view of friends, relatives and residents who were attending the funeral of his father Florencio Manimtim Sr., a retired Philippine Air Force soldier, at the Talisay Public Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. last Saturday.
Manimtim Jr., 50, who was mayor of this town for nine years before being elected vice mayor this year, was shot behind the head at close range by one of the gunmen.
He and his wounded bodyguard Joel Caringal, 32, are in critical condition at the Daniel Mercado Medical Hospital in Tanauan City.
The vice mayor's other bodyguard, Guillermo Macaraeg, 61, died on the spot due to a fatal bullet wound in the head.
After three terms as mayor, Manimtim ran and won as vice mayor against Jerry Natanauan, who lost by only three votes.
