News Update PMA official killed in Baguio City ambush

An official of the Philippine Military Academy was killed in an attack by an unidentified man in Baguio City on Thursday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said on Friday that the PMA official was identified as Lt. Col. Ferdinand Macasaet of the Philippine Air Force.

Cruz said Macasaet is the head of the PMA's Department of Air Warfare.

An initial investigation showed the victim was inside his car when he was shot by an unidentified assailant inside Pinesville Subdivision at Fort del Pilar village in Baguio City at about 5 p.m. of Thursday.

Macasaet was rushed to the PMA Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival at 6:10 p.m. He sustained two gunshot wounds, one in the chest and one in left jaw.

"First responders noticed the gunshots on the different parts of the vehicle. Personnel conducted a thorough search in the vicinity but yielded negative results," Cruz said.

Witnesses said the male attacker's height was between 5'6" and 5' 7". He was wearing a black shirt, a pair of jeans, and a red bonnet.

Recovered from the crime scene were a firearm magazine, three live ammunition for a cal-.45 pistol, a pair of slippers, an umbrella, and several empty shells. — Mark Merueñas/LBG,
