News UpdateTaal Fishpens Dismantled

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines - The Task Force Taal Lake (TFTL) dismantled some 70 illegal and abandoned fish cages in a three-day clearing operation in Barangays Sampaloc , Aya, Quling and Tumaway in Talisay town. Early this year, Governor Vilma Santos-Recto had directed the Task Force to resume the clean-up campaign to sustain the gains achieved since the multi-sectoral undertaking was launched in 2008.

This was coordinated with the local chief executives of municipalities within the lake's ''fish cage zone,.'' Monitoring and actual dismantling of fish cages without permits shall resume in May, or after a 60-day moratorium, which was granted by the lady governor, through a memorandum of agreement, after the town mayors of Talisay, Laurel, Agoncillo and San Nicolas, assisted by the League of Municipal Mayors of the Philippines-Batangas, appealed in behalf of local fish cage operators at the start of the clearing activities.
