News Update Lawmakers to study if plagiarism is betrayal of public trust

MANILA -- The House Committee on Justice will have to determine if plagiarism constitutes betrayal of public trust in its next hearing on the impeachment complaint against Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo.
This developed after the "divided committee" found the complaint sufficient in form on Wednesday.
The vote registered by the members was 11-10-1, almost prompting the justice committee chairman to vote on the matter in case of a tie.
For the impeachment complaint to be voted upon in a plenary, members of the justice panel have to determine in its subsequent hearings if there is sufficiency in substance, grounds, and probable cause to impeach the High Court justice.
