News Update Nova denies buses responsible for journalist's death

MANILA, Philippines - Nova Auto Transport has dismissed allegations that their buses were responsible for the accident leading to the death of journalist Chit Estella-Simbulan last May 13.
Universal Guiding Star bus driver Daniel Espinosa had earlier claimed that 2 Nova buses were speeding before one of them hit the taxi that simbulan was riding. Nova, however, said that based on their own investigation, none of their buses were involved in the incident.
"Ebidensya pa rin, we need physical evidence. Sa ngayon puro salita," said Atty. Vigor Mendoza, lawyer of Nova Auto Transport.
According to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), 4 Nova buses were plying the Fairview route at the time of the accident. A bus with plate number TXX 988 may have been involved, because it was dispatched at around 6 p.m. and it arrived 8 p.m. in Baclaran. The accident happened at around 7 p.m.
The MMDA, meanwhile, reacted to the claim of Espinosa's lawyer that the agency is involved in a cover-up of the accident.
"Sira po ang CCTV noon, ayos na sya ngayon pero kahit po ayos hindi maka-capture ang incident dahil sa puno na nakaharang," said MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino.
Quezon City police said they can't sue Nova Auto Transport without any basis.
For now, the city fiscal's office will investigate Espinosa, who faces criminal charges over the incident. - ANC
