News Update PAGASA: 2nd hottest day of 2011 recorded Sunday in NCR

The second hottest of the year in Metro Manila was recorded Sunday at 36.4 degrees Celsius, but state weather forecasters said the humidity may have made people feel an equivalent of up to 43 degrees.
Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Sonny Pajarilla said this was the second hottest since May 4, when the temperature went up to 36.5 degrees.
"Kahapon nakapagtala tayo ng 36.4 degrees. Medyo mataas at mataas ang relative humidity kaya feeling natin 36 degrees may more than 50 percent relative humidity, pakiramdam natin that was roughly 42-43 degrees Celsius," Pajarilla said in an interview on dzBB radio.
(On Sunday we recorded a temperature of 36.4 degrees. That plus the relativee humidity at 50 percent made people feel temperatures were about 42 to 43 degrees Celsius.)
He said the hottest temperature Sunday was recorded at about 2:30 p.m.
Still, Pajarilla advised students in Metro Manila to bring umbrellas as there may be isolated rainshowers especially in the afternoon.
"Mainit at pag inabot kayo ng kaunting pagambon magiging vulnerable tayo sa sipon (It is very hot now, and if you are exposed to rain, you will be vulnerable to colds)," he said.
Low-pressure area
On the other hand, Pajarilla said PAGASA expects a low-pressure area to enter Philippine territory within the day.
Citing initial data, he said the LPA may bring rains to the eastern part of Mindanao.
"Maaring magdulot ng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa (There is a danger of flash floods)," he said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said an Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting Visayas and Mindanao while a ridge of a high-pressure area (HPA) is extending across Luzon.
"Palawan, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," it said.
It added that Luzon will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. — RSJ,
