In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Basyang" (Conson) intensified into a typhoon as it headed for Central Luzon, threatening even Metro Manila and southern Luzon.
Earlier, Basyang was forecast to head northward toward Isabela. But latest PAGASA data showed the typhoon has veered westward and was expected to make landfall in the Quezon-Aurora area either by Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.
Storm Signal No. 3 has been placed in five areas in Luzon, while Signal No. 2 had been placed in 10 areas.
