News Update Philippine Son of ex-Cebu provincial official guns down brother

MANILA, Philippines – A son of a former government official of Cebu shot dead his brother who reportedly attacked him with a knife this morning, a radio report said.

Alan Almerante, 49, son of former provincial board member Antonio Almerante, suffered four gunshot wounds in the chest during the incident, the report added.

Meanwhile, the victim's brother, Antonio Almerante III, was taken into custody after shooting his sibling inside their residence.

Quoting police investigators, the report said the victim, wielding a knife, went berserk and challenged his brother to a fight around 9 a.m. today.

The suspect reportedly obliged and tried to scare away his brother with a cal. 9mm pistol. But the victim lunged at his brother with a knife, prompting the suspect to defend himself, the report added. - By Dennis Carcamo
