News Update Free Philhealth for 46,000 Familie

DAVAO CITY - The Region 11 office here of the Department of Health (DoH 11) is sponsoring 46,000 families identified by the Social Welfare body worthy to be registered to the government's socialized health care system at no cost. To cater to the families around the region, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is slated to launch its 12 satellite centers all over the region, where eight would be situated inside this city and the rest on the provinces.

"The program is to increase awareness on the importance of PhilHealth and its role in giving access to healthcare," Filbert Bryan L. Sollesta, PhilHealth division chief 11, said. "We are pushing the informal sector to enroll because politically-sponsored cards are unstable," he explained. The DoH 11 will sponsor the one-year premium of 46,000 families here. Each PhilHealth premium costs P100 per month, translating to P1,200 per annum. Virtually all hospitals, including lying-in, and polyclinics, reaching around 115 centers, are accredited by PhilHealth in this region. (Mick Basa
