COTABATO, Philippines (Xinhua) - Gunmen killed a local trader and his wife Wednesday morning in front of a Roman Catholic-run school in the southern Philippines, police said. Noni Luminog and his wife, Mylene, were attacked by two armed men while they were about to leave the parking area of Notre dame School along Sinsuat Avenue in the southern city of Cotabato, police said.
The attackers immediately left the scene after confirming their targets were dead due to fatal bullet wounds in their heads and bodies, said Senior Superintendent Willy Dangane, a local police commander. "The couple had just brought their children to school when the assassination occurred," Dangane said. Police have started investigating the incident. In July 2009, six people were killed when a bomb exploded in front of a Catholic church in Cotabato.
