Nestlé Philippines Inc. has recalled its Maggi beef and chicken noodles after finding traces of salmonella in two batches of the beef variant, reports ABS-CBN News. "The product recall is a precautionary measure... to ensure the safety and quality of our products," the multinational firm said in an advertisement printed yesterday.
Inquirer.net also quoted the advertisement: "We have immediately initiated an extensive investigation to determine the cause of this contamination, and initial findings suggest flavoring ingredients as the cause."
However, Nestlé Philippines said the products are safe to eat if customers properly follow the cooking instructions, reports ABS-CBN News. According to the report, customers who bought the recalled items are requested to call Nestlé Philippines at 898-0061 (Metro Manila) and 1-800-100-637853 (provinces, toll-free).
Food and Drug Administration Director Suzette Lazo told ANC's Top Story yesterday, "According to law, they (Nestlé Philippines) have to do this, when they discover that there is something that would be harmful to consumers. They complied with that law, and this is a very responsible thing that they did... We also have to do our own analysis now, based on our (standard operating procedure)."
