News Update P1-M reward offered for info on Calbayog mayor's killers

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines - The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Interior and Local Government are offering a P1-million reward to anyone who can help identify and arrest those behind the killing of Calbayog City Mayor Reynaldo Uy.
Uy was killed last April 30 while he was attending a program in a fiesta celebration in Hinabangan town in Samar province.
In a press conference, Eastern Visayas police regional director Chief Supt. Arnold Revilla showed composite sketches of 2 suspects who were identified by witnesses.
He said President Benigno Aquino III expressed concern about the case, and advised that a reward be offered for the arrest of the killers.
Aquino paid his respect to Uy at the Calbayog City Sport Complex on Thursday.
Revilla said police have yet to find the motive for the killing.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo earlier ordered the PNP in Eastern Visayas to fast-track its investigation on the case.
Robredo is offering a separate P200,000 reward while Hinabangan Mayor Abaratigue is also offering a P100,000 bounty.
Special Task Force Uy, led by Senior Supt. Edgar Basbas, is working with other police agencies in investigating the killing.
PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo also visited the region the other day and inspected the crime scene were Uy was shot dead.
Bacalzo ordered police to enforce the suspension of permits to carry firearms that is being implemented in Samar.
