BAGUIO CITY - Around 300 illegal structures were demolished at a property owned by the National Power Corporation (Napocor) in this city, authorities reported Friday. Combined personnel of the Napocor, law enforcers and the city demolition team went to work upon the expiration of a temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by a local court stopping an earlier demolition at the 18-hectare property registered under the name of an association of Napocor employees in Barangay Irisan, here.
The demolition of the illegal structures will pave the way for a private company to develop the Napocor property so that its employees who availed of their housing program will be able to own houses in the area. Despite allegations from the reported informal settlers that the demolition was illegal, Napocor officials claimed the dismantling of the structures went through due process because they followed all legal steps before the demolition order was issued and implemented.
