A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly possessing illegally sawn lumber and other equipment for illegal logging inside his house in Samar province. Demetrio David was nabbed on Saturday after authorities from the National Bureau of Investigation recovered 5,000 board feet of illegally sawn lumber from his house in Barangay Trinidad in Calbayog City, NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula said. Also recovered from the area were different kinds of sawing equipment, he added. The raid of David’s residence was carried out by virtue of a search warrant obtained by Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) after receiving information last week regarding the man’s alleged involvement in illegal logging activities. David will face charges for violation of the Forest Management Act, according to Gatdula.—With Andreo C. Calonzo/JV
