Tropical depression "Katring" continued to move closer towards Luzon Sunday while rains were still expected from the tailend of typhoon "Juan."
State weather forecasters said they are still monitoring the movements of "Katring" to see if it will make landfall over Northern Luzon.
"Hindi pwedeng i-rule out ang posibleng pagtama sa Northern Luzon area, kaya nagmo-monitor pa rin tayo (We cannot rule out the possibility that “Katring" will make landfall in the Northern Luzon area, so we are monitoring its movement closely)," Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Chris Perez said in an interview on radio dzBB.
On the other hand, he said there will be more rains in the next 24 hours from the tailend of "Juan."
He said "Katring" is still too far to directly affect the country.
"Ang ulan di pa related sa ‘Katring’ ang ulan. Ito ang remnants ng nagdaang bagyong si 'Juan.' Within the next 24 hours ito ang inaasahan natin (The rains will not be from 'Katring.' These will more be from 'Juan.' We expect this in the next 24 hours)," he said.
As of 5 a.m., PAGASA estimated "Katring" at 1,090 km east of Central Luzon.
It said that "Katring" was packing maximum winds of 55 kph near the center and is forecast to move west-southwest at 15 kph.
"Luzon and Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," the weather bureau said.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over northern and western sections of Northern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough, it added. — VS,
