News Update Fugitive American sex offender nabbed in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – Police and federal agents arrested last Wednesday an American national in this city who they say was wanted for 11 sexual offenses in the United States.

David Wayne Altman Greth, 39, was arrested after authorities were tipped off that he was working at an English tutorial center in this city's Molo district.

Greth was wanted in hometown in Portsmouth, Virginia for several sexual offenses, including rape, two counts of child abuse, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, three counts of forcible sodomy and indecent liberties with children, and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Lawyer Elfren Meneses Jr., director of the National Bureau of Investigation in Western Visayas, said Greth was deported to the United States Saturday evening.

Greth is among the featured criminals in the US television show "America's Most Wanted". He was dubbed by the Virginia Examiner news daily as "one of the worst types of criminals."

Added to his strings of Level 4 criminal offenses was the charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution for the crimes of indecent liberties with children.

Greth fled to the Philippines on August 4, 2006, two months before a US court issued warrants of arrest, as charges were pursued by the victims' families.

He stayed for some time in Bacolod City and Capiz, where he had assumed different identities. He finally settled in Iloilo City to work as an English tutor in a Korean school.

While in Iloilo, he used aliases such as David Altman, Robert Kline, George Altman and Kevin Altman in his Facebook account and visited porn sites with preferred "friends" based in Iloilo City.

He has several girlfriends; one of them is six months pregnant. The girlfriend claimed she and boyfriend David Altman are getting married this December. (Lydia C. Pendon/Sunnex)
