CEBU CITY -- Cebu Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr. succumbed to lung cancer at 2:40 a.m. Friday in the intensive care unit of Chong Hua Hospital.
He was 68. He died less than two weeks after his two daughters first confirmed he was suffering from stage four lung cancer.
"Of all the bosses I had, he may not have been the best, but he was the kindest," his chief of staff, Evangeline de Paula, told reporters. She said she first met the vice governor in 1986.
The wake for Sanchez is being held at the Crystal Palace, a complementary facility of the Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes in Nivel Hills, Lahug, Cebu City.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said she will harmonize plans with the Legislative Department for a necrological service for the vice governor. She extended her "deepest condolences and sympathies" to the family and said she will visit the wake "at the proper time.
