Two inmates of the New Bilibid Prison in Mutinlupa City were found dead after a fire of still undetermined origin broke out in the detention facility Friday afternoon.
Major Roderick Aguto, a Muntinlupa fire marshal, said the prisoners remained unidentified, according to a report by GMA News' "24 Oras."
"Sa magkaibang bahagi ng building sila nakita. Hindi pa sila ma-identify ngayon. They are in the laboratory to be identified," said Aguto.
The report said officials of the penitentiary are also looking at the conditions of other prisoners at the Medium Security Compound's Building 5.
The compound, also called the Sampaguita Camp, has seven buildings. It houses more than 1,000 inmates.
The fire supposedly broke out at 4:30 p.m. in the central part of the building, the report said. It had been declared "fire out" at 5:36 p.m.
The report said no inmate had managed to escape during the fire. Still, the detention facility's officials are ensuring that all inmates are accounted for as of this posting. — Jesse Edep/VS
