News Update Veteran journalist killed in QC car accident

A veteran journalist was killed in a car accident near the UP-Ayala Land TechnoHub in Quezon City on Friday night, the police said.
Investigator SPO4 Nelson Apostol identified the victim as Lourdes Simbulan, a.k.a. Chit Estella, a professor at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.
Initial investigation showed that a bus — which the police said belong to the Universal Guiding Star Bus Line, based on witness reports — severely hit the rear of the taxi Simbulan was riding at 6 p.m.
"Yuping-yupi ‘yung taxi. 'Di na nga makilala 'yung sasakyan," Apostol told GMA News Online.

He said the driver of the bus sped off after hitting the taxi. Police are now trying to identify the driver.
Simbulan was brought to General Miguel Malvar Medical Foundation Hospital along Commonwealth Avenue, but was pronounced dead on arrival, the investigator said.
Simbulan served as managing editor of the Manila Times — the country's longest-running English newspaper — under the then-editor in chief Malou Mangahas.
She became a trustee of the Vera Files, which is put out by veteran journalists taking a deeper look into current issues.
Her husband, Roland Simbulan, is a professor at the UP College of Arts and Science. — VS
