Comelec sets voters satellite registration

THE Bacolod City Commission on Elections (Comelec) said there will be a satellite registration of voters on Saturday at the north wing of SM City-Bacolod in celebration of the National PWD (Persons with Disability) Registration Day. The registration will start at 10 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. Satellite registration of voters will also be held at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Handumanan on August 20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in relation to the detainee voting. Registration of voters is ongoing at the Bacolod Comelec Office from Monday to Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays, which means the office is open on August 20, 21 and 27. Registration will be temporarily suspended on October 1 to 5 to give way to the filing of Certificates of Candidacy, said Mavil Majarucon-Sia, head of the Comelec office. She reminded the public to register early and not wait for the October 31 deadline. She said those who will turn 18 years old on or before the day of election on May 13, 2013 can already register. All they have to do is bring their identification card and birth certificate to prove that on the day of election, he or she is already 18 years old. Majarucon said October is MassKara Festival, so many people are expected to flock to the Comelec office to register before the October 31 deadline and “they might have a problem on crowd control.” As much as possible, they should not wait until October to register, she said.
