Help Pours In For MMDA Traffic Aide

..It's pouring blessings for Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic aide Saturnino Fabros, who was slapped by a motorist for doing his job dutifully. After being promoted, Fabros now gets a makeover of his bungalow house in Payatas in Quezon City, courtesy of his superiors and colleagues in the agency. A team from the agency's general services division took the time out yesterday to extend their helping hand to start the repair of the house of Fabros, who was berated and hit by motorist Robert Blair Carabuena in altercation two weeks ago in Quezon City. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said that in recognition of Fabros' character, some employees of the agency contributed to extend their support to help their colleague, a father of six children. Apart from construction workers, General Administration Service Division engineer Winston T. Besa said they brought construction materials and other basic necessities for the restoration of the house. Besa said they will fix the roofs, toilet, pave the flooring, among others. "When my wife was still alive, her plan was to renovate the house and add a second floor for our growing family," Fabros recalled. Fabros, who remains on vacation leave, could not contain his gratitude to the agency and the public who have been supporting him upon learning of his plight. "Gusto kong magpasalamat sa agency at sa publiko na sumusoporta sa akin, napakalaki nang naitulong nyo sa akin," Fabros noted. MMDA Traffic Discipline Office chief Yves Gonzalez said a concerned citizen also sent him a message through the MMDA account on a social networking site that she would donate a 29-inch second hand television to Fabros. "She (concerned citizen) has heard that Fabros does not have a television, she messaged me that she would donate her television," Gonzalez said. Fabros, who gained public sympathy because of the incident, said he's willing to forgive Carabuena but stressed that he is determined to pursue the case against him, along with his brother who also helped in attacking him. From Traffic Constable 1, the agency gave Fabros a merit promotion - to Traffic Constable 2, for his commitment to his job. Fabros has been working with the MMDA for 27 years. Despite the terrible incident he encountered, Fabros said he will continue to work as traffic constable. ..
