State weather forecasters on Wednesday night placed five more areas in northern Luzon under Storm Signal No. 2 as tropical storm Domeng moved closer to the country.
In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Domeng was last spotted 350 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.
Domeng maintained its strength of 65 kilometers per hour with gustiness of up to 80 kph. It is moving westward at a speed of 19 kph, according to PAGASA.
At this speed, the tropical storm is expected to be 350 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes on Friday evening, PAGASA said.
Storm Signal No. 2 was hoisted in the following areas:
- Isabela - Mt. Province - Kalinga - Abra - Apayao - Ilocos Norte - Cagayan - Babuyan Islands - Calayan Islands - Batanes Group of Islands
Under Signal No. 1 were:
- Ilocos Sur - La Union - Pangasinan - Benguet - Nueva Viscaya - Nueva Ecija - Quirino - Ifugao - Aurora
The state weather bureau advised residents from low lying and mountainous areas of possible flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA also alerted local disaster coordinating councils to take appropriate actions and watch out for the next weather bulletin at 5 a.m. Thursday. - KBK
