MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has spotted a new low pressure area, which it said could turn into a typhoon in the next few days.
This came as tropical storm "Domeng" weakened into a tropical depression early this morning and is moving toward Cagayan.
"We are monitoring a new LPA, right behind ‘Domeng.’ This LPA could become a storm in the next few days," Pagasa director Prisco Nilo said during a press briefing today.
The weather bureau will name the new LPA, sighted 940 kilometers east of Luzon, "Ester" if it turns into a tropical cyclone.
Meanwhile, Nilo said “Domeng” may further weaken as it moves toward northern Luzon. - By Dennis Carcamo
