LA TRINIDAD, Benguet - Authorities seized over P1.25 million worth of dried marijuana leaves in brick form, which was abandoned by a still unidentified woman on the road in Barangay Poblacion, here, before dawn Friday.
The confiscated illegal contraband which weighed at least 10 kilos were placed in a box and plastic bag. Alert barangay officials, along with combined police and anti-narcotics agents, spotted the woman who abandoned her package and hurriedly fled.
Records from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) showed the illegal drugs could have cost much higher as they were packed in full stalk length.
This means that the marijuana being they seized was free from breakage and had soft stems, leaves and fruiting tops all intact.
Chief Superintendent Samuel B. Diciano, deputy regional director for administration of the Police Regional Office (PRO) in the Cordillera, claimed the well-packed marijuana bricks could have been obviously made to order and that the woman who was the courier could have been tasked to deliver the same to a prospective buyer.
Poblacion barangay officials were conducting their regular patrol duty in their area of jurisdiction when they noticed the woman carrying what they said was a suspicious bag.
