BONTOC, Mountain Province - The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) office of the Center for Health Development (CHD) here cited the Mountain Province for its exemplary performance in the implementation of various health programs geared towards improving the health condition of the people in the different parts of the landlocked province.
The regional health decision-makers' forum is being conducted by the health department annually to further improve the performance of the health sector in the region to cater to the health needs of the people in the six provinces and two cities comprising the Cordillera.
Mountain Province under the able leadership of Gov. Leonardo Mayaen received a special award for measles surveillance since there were no measles cases in this landlocked province that affirms the efforts of the provincial and municipal health offices in curbing the prevalence of the dreaded illness that poses a serious threat to the lives of the children and even adults.
St. Theodore's Hospital in Sagada town was chosen as one among six hospitals in the different parts of the region which have been compliant to the newborn screening facilities category.
Other hospitals cited include the Amma Jadsac District Hospital in Apayao, Bangued Christian Hospital in Abra, Dr. Petronilo V. Siares Memorial Hospital also in Abra, Mayoyao District Hospital in Ifugao, and Notre Dame de Cartes Hospital in Baguio City.
Moreover, at least three villages of Mountain Province received special awards and recognitions on best sanitation practices which help in encouraging residents to embark on a healthy living for a productive and better life ahead.
The awardees include Sta. Isabela in Natonin town, Lubo of Tadian town, and Bao-angan of Sabangan town.
Mayaen pointed out that the awards given to the various sectors in the province will serve as an inspiration to the provincial and municipal governments to strengthen the support being given to the health sector despite the meager resources to show to the people that they are not abandoning the commitment of local officials to support the programs and projects of health for the people.
