News Update Exodus to Cavite Noted

MANILA, Philippines - More than half of the population of Cavite are migrants from Metro Manila and nearby provinces, the Provincial Population Development Office (POPDev) confirmed Thursday. Filipina V. Samson, POPDev officer, said that of the three million population of Cavite, 1.8 million are migrants and that 1.2 million are natives of the province. With the number of people, the National Statistics Office (NSO) tagged Cavite as the most-densely populated province in the country. Samson said that unless something is done, the population of Cavite may boom from three million to nine million in the next five years. She made her forecast as she cited the 5.4% population growth rate of the province during the last five years. "The population of Cavite may increase from more than three million to nine million in 2015, particularly with the influx of migrants in the province," said Samson, who has been the POPDev officer for 38 years. He said migrants preferred to live in Cavite because of low-cost housing projects; the existence of job sites, schools and other establishments; and its proximity to Metro Manila.
