BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental - Some 25 residents of Purok Santan, Brgy. Calumanggan, Bago City, Negros Occidental were rushed to the hospital after eating adobo chicken liver. They were found to be suffering from food poisoning, according to Dr. Jesus Rey Pacilan of the Bago City District Hospital. Said 25 people started throwing up a few hours after eating the adobo chicken liver; they also began complaining about head and stomach aches.
The patients told Dr. Pacilan that they bought the chicken liver from a neighbor selling theese at P25 per kilo. They said they were advised to pour hot water on the liver that looked greenish before cooking the ingredient. The neighbor selling said liver said she did not know why those who bought the ingredient from him were poisoned as her family, who also ate the same chicken liver, was spared from getting sick. Out of said 25 patients, 15 were minors. The source of the chicken liver is now the focus of an investigation to be conducted, according to Bago City Veterinarian Dr. Eliezer dela Cruz. He said it is "dangerous" to take in chicken liver from a commercial farm that does not practice implementing a withdrawal period from the administering of antibiotics to chickens. (Edith B. Colmo)
