CEBU CITY, Philippines - In a move to raise the bar in the water technology and infrastructure services in the Philippines, a Singaporean company recently signed a partnership with Cebu-based water firm Mactan Rock Industries Inc. (MRII) to form a new corporation, Sing-Phil Resources Inc. The partnership aims to boost the supply requirements especially among regions and urban centers in the country that are facing a looming water shortage, said Sing-Phil Resources Inc. President Chris Dinopol. "The new firm aims to provide total water technology infrastructure especially for bulk water requirements in the Philippines," he said, adding that the joint partnership will help modernize the water technology service industry in the Philippines by introducing First-World bulk water supply technology. It initially targets to offer its services to private concessionaires, initially in Metro Manila and in Cebu, to help cushion the lack of supply in many areas of these cities. "The country being archipelagic in nature, water resources is something that is easily addressed. What it actually needs is proper technology and application to maximize our resources," Dinopol said. Tong Shing, an expert in the construction business in Singapore, will complement MRII's expertise in providing water technology and resources especially for the private bulk water concessionaires and private corporations.
Repairing a water pipe for instance, is no longer a problem for most private companies, now as water supply will be disrupted while men are working on the pipe repair, Dinopol said. "The Philippines needs this kind of technology in order to eradicate the social problem of water shortage. We already have the technology and expertise. Water supply should not be a problem anymore," Dinopol said. Tong Shing Construction owns 40 percent of the newly established Sing-Phil Resources Inc., while MRII owns the majority of the company's stocks. MRII is a Cebu-based company, which has been providing water technology solutions to over 350 industries around the country for the past 30 years. It is the first company in Asia that introduced the desalination process, which will purify seawater into potable water
