As part of preparations for the coming school year, Metro Manila police have set up closed-circuit television (CCTV) monitors in crime-prone school zones.
Radio dzXL reported Saturday the National Capital Region Police Office initially installed the CCTV systems in the University Belt in Manila, and at International School in Taguig City.
Even Chinese schools in Manila, once a target of kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) gangs, are under police surveillance via CCTV, the report said.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) also plans to set up similar surveillance systems in school districts in Intramuros in Manila and along Aurora Boulevard in Quezon City.
The report said more than 300 CCTV cameras are now in place in the Metropolis.
On the other hand, the NCRPO said it would deploy a total 8,000 personnel as it goes into heightened alert a week before classes start on June 15. — LBGrong
