Parts of Metro Manila and Cavite are to experience hour-long rotating brownouts from 10 am to 3 pm today, Friday, in order to cope with a 250 megawatt deficiency, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said on dzBB radio.
The deficiency is due to the Ilijan plant system being placed on red alert after a problem with one of its platforms, said Zaldarriaga, citing information from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines' report delivered at 8:40 am.
Meanwhile, Meralco's Twitter account said that the Ilijan Power Plant reduced output due to a gas leak.
From the normal 1200 megawatts, the Batangas plant is down to producing 600 megawatts, said Zaldarriaga.
The rotating brownouts will be conducted via manual load dropping.

Ilijan Power Plant warned that the schedule is subject to change, but reassured the public that the rotational brownouts are not likely to last until the weekend.
"The weekend demands for electricity are much lower, since there are no offices or factories that are open," he said. - TJD
