TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte (PNA) - A total of 300 poor students from 23 villages here availed of the City Vocational Technical Scholarship Program (CIVOTESPRO) which was conducted recently for School Year (SY) 2010-2011.
City Manpower Development Assistant Javier C. Balaba said that together with the Tagum City National Trade School (TCNTS), and Korea/Philippine Vocational Regional Training Center (KORPHIL), CIVOTESPRO handled the exams simultaneously at the Provincial Capitol building here, and at the Tagum City National Trade School.
Balaba said CIVOTESPRO provides educational assistance to the poor but deserving students in the area.
The program caters to high school graduates and/or college drop-outs that don't have the ways and means to continue their education.
In the process, he said the scholars are given a chance to choose from two technical vocational institutions - the Tagum City National Trade School in this city, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Administration (TESDA) Korea-Philippines Regional Training Center in Davao City.
However, Balaba said for SY 2010-2011, only 150 slots for TCNTS and 66 slots for KORPHI are available.
"Examinees that will pass the qualifying examination could avail of and enjoy the benefits to be granted equivalent to the assessment on tuition fees and other approved school fees every month including meal allowances and dormitory expenses," he said.
