News Update Palace hopes poll fraud hearings won't delay proclamation

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang hopes the proclamation of the new president and vice president will not be delayed by the House hearing on poll fraud allegations.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Gary OIivar said President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is ready to turn over her post, and is now preparing for her role as representative of the second district of Pampanga.

Presidential spokesperson Ricardo Saludo, meantime, reiterated Malacañang's position that poll fraud allegations cannot be taken seriously-- unless concrete proof is presented.

Meanwhile, House of Representatives secretary-general Marilyn Yap said preparations for the canvassing are on schedule.

Yap said they expect the ballot boxes to be delivered to the lower House in Quezon City from the Senate in Pasay City on Monday night.

Yap also assured the public Congress will ensure transparency all throughout the canvassing process.
