News update Vigan set to distribute 39 generators for disaster use

VIGAN CITY - A total of 39 generators had been purchased by the city government in this world heritage site for distribution to different barangays here to prepare them in time for possible disasters during the typhoon season.

Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina said each of the 39 barangays will receive a generator to serve as an alternative source of electricity when village officers need to conduct disaster relief and rescue operations.

"Electricity is very important in the relief and rescue operations during and after the calamity like typhoon especially in the night time," Medina said.

In giving out the generators, she enjoins citizens to be vigilant and help one another in the event of calamities and emergencies.

"We realized the giving of a standby generator to each of our 39 barangays is one of the best remedies to prepare for the possible occurrence of a brownout that might hamper our immediate delivery of our efficient assistance to our constituent-victims of calamities," she said.

The lady mayor said the generators will serve as multi-purpose equipment in the barangay in which they may be used by local residents in case of brownouts during their family parties, provided that they would pay a minimal fee to the barangay administration for maintenance of the gadget.
