Kopi talk Where to, Noynoy?

Hi zhern thanks for your article in Singapore I had been in the private and also in the Singapore Civil sector I had the chance to experienced great organizations that are created by great leaders. In my department I had work with many bosses however, I still remembered my 2 bosses Mr Chandra and Mr loh. For Mr Chandra he was a person who could unleash the highest and best contributions of their team toward their organization's most critical strategic priorities. But why do the latter cannot achieve it? In fact I'm wrong to say, both of my boss are great leaders. It just that the management style was total different.

Mr Chandra achieved leadership through his own character by inspired trust among direct reports, superiors, and peers. He would align systems and work processes so they facilitate rather than hinder achievement. Even in the lower rank personnel he would so tactful and clarify purpose by articulating why goals are established and how individual work contributes to those goals. Under his leadership and management he managed to unleash the unique talent and contribution of people on their team and organization. As leader both had the ability to generate an emotional response is the key. However in the Loh character he had recognized and it’s hard to escape the feeling that fear is still an important reality in the world of work. Not just fear of layoffs, which are often a matter of cyclical downturns and global disruptions. The issue is good old-fashioned fear of the boss, driven by the knowledge that one’s performance will be judged by his highest standards and that failure to meet a high level of achievement will not be tolerated for long. Isn’t such fear necessary, even healthy, in today’s ultra competitive world. But one common theme emerges: People want clear rules, honesty and mutual trust. When they sense that they are being treated fairly, their feelings of fear and love become secondary to their focus on the bigger picture. Under Mr Chandra team motivation is high under the Loh character motivation for resignation was also in the high scale. Moreover, in a rank and file structure managing through fear and its divide-and-conquer tactics will set at odds those who most need to coordinate and cooperate for reaching the goal in the organization. Ironically,  Mr Chandra Character that inspired that I preferred to adopted and manage the staff in my organization. In Singapore all the head of department one way another had attended the same leadership training, why so different and disparities of management ?

Let ABRAHAM LINCOLN saying character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. So it boil down to individual character and sincerity of the individual, like Mr Loh you would know instinctively his the sort of people you want readily associate and forget once you leave the company. Or Mr Chandra that leave a lasting impression an architect of character that had an influence in every individual by leaving a lasting impression even though you are not with the organisation. Finally the best index to a person's character is (a) how he treats people who can't do him any good, and (b) how he treats people who can't fight back.

There was at once a sense of unaccustomed authority and pride when Noynoy Aquino, aware of his lead early on in the presidential elections, declared his plan to form his Cabinet "to get the right people who will implement the policies."
The point is that the policies he was talking about could be "bitter and divisive," as some well-meaning people this early are saying.

He called on his rivals in the presidential contest "to rise above partisan politics" and asked them to forswear provocations that could be the root cause of endless squabbles.

They are, of course, well-taken: What Aquino wants is for the losers to accept the people's verdict even as he invites them to join hands with him in improving the people's lot.

"I've been reaching out to them, for instance, in terms of cooperating to ensure we really have credible, honest elections," Noynoy Aquino declared, adding that he was making an appeal that "whoever triumphs this should be reflective of the people's will rather than any other mechanism."

It must be noted that despite his huge majority over the other presidential aspirants and despite the concessions registered by most of his rivals, Aquino has not yet been officially proclaimed as President-elect by the Congress in joint session.

Even so, Noynoy Aquino is confident - and people agree - that the proclamation will just be a matter of official formality.

Part of that confidence is his overall plan for the organization of his Cabinet as, in fact, he has already been in search of the right men and women for the jobs.

But not only that.

It appears, as he has already announced, that he is launching wide-ranging investigations against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for alleged "corruption and vote-rigging."

In making the announcement, he vowed to find closure to all the issues such as the "Hello Garci scandal, the fertilizer scam, the ZTE broadband deal, and so on and so forth," to quote Aquino himself.

As has been commented on, such priority program of the incoming Noynoy Aquino administration will be "bitter and divisive," but from what we hear he is very serious about the whole thing, the reason he made it on top of his agenda for the nation.

But that is not all: Also being mentioned for investigation are the unexplained wealth of the Marcoses.

This early, murmurs are spreading around about what the Aquino government is up to. Just the other day he was heard saying he won't allow himself to be sworn in as President by incoming Chief Justice Renato Corona.
