EKING out a living as a waste collector and trishaw rider, Ms Jenny Sitoh's father struggled to feed his family of seven.
Yesterday, his 55-year-old daughter bowed in gratitude to the man she credits for giving her an education.
'We were so poor my father could not even afford the $3 monthly school fees,' said the businesswoman.
'If not for Dr Goh, who made sure education was affordable for everyone in those days, I wouldn't have completed my O levels,' she added tearfully.
Ms Sitoh was in a long queue that formed at Parliament House yesterday as 5,465 people from all walks of life streamed into a vast hall from noon, to pay their last respects to former deputy prime minister Goh Keng Swee.
