News update Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao gets 2 infra projects from Japan

COTABATO CITY (PNA) - Japanese representatives turned over to Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) officials on Monday two multi-million-peso infrastructure projects aimed at improving the literacy rate and address the high incidence of mortality rate in Maguindanao.

The projects, implemented by the ARMM Social Fund Project (ASFP) through a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), were the P7.5 million school building project for the Maguindanao National High School (MNHS) in Shariff Aguak town, and the P12.9-M Mother and Child Pavilion (MCP) in Datu Hoffer.

"Similar projects would be implemented this year in other province components of the region," Engineer Nasser Sinarimbo, ASFP project manager, said.

The two-storey eight-classroom school building would be used by the MNHS 3rd and 4th year students.

On the other hand, ARMM Health Secretary Dr. Kadil Sinolinding said the 50-bed capacity MCP would later be equipped with modern medical apparatus needed for the operation of the facility.

Sinarimbo said the ASFP is currently supporting institutions in the ARMM to have projects that will help alleviate poverty and make ARMM a livable place in the country.

"For one, we expect the new school building to reduce the number of out-of-school youths in Maguindanao and improve educational awareness in communities of the province," he stressed.

"The projects were funded by the national government through loans from the World Bank (WB) and JICA," he said.

He noted that 33 more sub-projects under the Strategic Regional Infrastructure (SRI) under the JICA fund are up for implementation in the region this year.

Earlier this year, the WB has approved a $30-million additional financing support through ASFP to cover more villages from the five provinces and two-city component of the region.
