News update Retail veteran's secret to success

By Shivali Nayak, Multimedia Journalist

AGE is immaterial. That may be the secret to the longevity of 152-year-old department store Robinsons.

This anti-ageist attitude is best reflected in its employment practices; 46 per cent of Robinsons staff are aged 40 years and above.

For instance, 71-year-old Mauricio Soliano is one of the oldest and longest serving members of the Robinsons family.

With a solid 51 year long service record, Mauricio is already 9 years past Singapore's mandatory retirement age of 62. And the senior sales associate is not slowing down!

A strong advocate of lifelong learning, Mauricio's winning attitude made him the 'poster boy' in a campaign about older employees who were still committed to a healthy work life past retirement.

Indeed, retirement for this sprightly gentleman remains a faraway concept. 'My doctor says I have a brain of a 25-year-old and a body of a 71-year-old,' says Mauricio with youthful vigour.
