News Update US ATA donated P9M bomb suits, kits to PNP and NBI

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines -- The US Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA) donated P9-million worth of bomb suits and explosive incident countermeasure (EIC) kits after providing training the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Central Mindanao.

At least 15 PNP explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) operatives and three NBI officers completed the comprehensive seven-week training last May.
US Embassy ATA program manager Ed Schlachter formally turned over three EIC kits and suits to protect the EOD operatives of Sultan Kudarat, Special Action Force (SAF), and the Manila Police district after as part of the completion of the training.
Chief Supt. Felicisimo Khu, Police Regional Office 12 (PRO) director encouraged the those who underwent the training to share their skills to their colleagues when they return to their respective units to maximize the counter-measures and safety of the operatives in dealing with the terrorism threats such as bombings.

The US government through its embassy in the country has been providing equipments and trainings to the local operatives in southern Philippines due to the continues bombing attacks staged by various threat groups, including the Abu Sayyaf, Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militants and even New People’s Army (NPA) and rogue Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels. - By Roel Pareño
