Repair work on the Quirino Grandstand in Manila is on schedule and will be turned over this Sunday to organizers of President-elect Benigno Simeon Aquino III's June 30 inauguration.

Public Works Undersecretary Romeo Momo said Wednesday they have so far spent P200 million reinforcing parts of the structure using imported materials.
"By the 27th itu-turnover na yan sa committee on inauguration para matingnan nila at madagdag ng kailangan (By Sunday, we will turn over the grandstand to the committee on inauguration so it can determine what else needs to be done)," Momo said in an interview on dzXL radio.
He said he expects no more problems with the grandstand once it is turned over.
Aquino is to take his oath at the Quirino Grandstand at noon of June 30. He will also take part in a "people's celebration" at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City in the evening.
"Yung appearance nito okay na, walang problema (The grandstand's appearance is okay, we expect no more problems)," Momo said of the grandstand.

The same radio report said the inauguration team, which include Maria Montelibano and Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, had already checked preparations including the 1,500 VIP seats and accommodations for 13,000 people.
Wide-screen television units were also prepared for those who cannot be accommodated at the grandstand.
For its part, Metro Manila police will go on heightened alert starting June 29 for the inauguration day.
Radio dzXL reported Metro Manila police spokesman Superintendent Rommel Miranda said they will focus on keeping key sites of the inauguration "carnap-free" and "crime-free."
He said it’s "all systems go" as far as security arrangements for the inauguration are concerned, with 3,000 policemen deployed to the venues of the events.
According to Miranda, most of the police personnel will be deployed at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila and the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City. — LBG/RSJ
