News update NBI team arrives in Marawi city to probe Comelec son's abduction

A four-member National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) team arrived in Marawi City in Mindanao on Wednesday to look into the abduction of the son of a Commission on Elections official.

Radio dzBB's Teresa Tavares reported the NBI Special Task Force team headed by lawyer Arnel Dalumpines has instructions to coordinate with the NBI office in Marawi City.

NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said the team includes mostly lawyers. The NBI, however, declined to make public the leads it has gathered so far on the case.

On Monday, the NBI began to collect testimonies from witnesses on the abduction of the son of Commission on Elections commissioner Elias Yusoph.

Unidentified men abducted Nuraldin Yusoph, 22, at the Bato Ali Mosque in Barangay Sabala Amanao in Marawi City on Sunday night.

Police earlier cited reports the abductors wish to have certain votes in Lanao del Sur annulled.

In a meeting with reporters on Tuesday, Commissioner Yusoph did not give any comments regarding the possible motive behind his son’s abduction, but said the case is already with the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) of Lanao del Sur and the NBI.

Also he told reporters that his son was not being harmed by his captors. "He's not being harmed... we still hope that he should be released," he said. [See: Comelec official’s abducted son is unharmed, father says] — LBG, RJAB Jr
